Souvenir Magnet for David Hockney: Bigger & Closer Not Smaller & Further Away Exhibition

The client required a souvenir magnet for their David Hockney: Bigger & Closer Not Smaller & Further Away exhibition. To capture the natural, organic approach Hockney uses in his manipulation of colour, we chose an amorphous shape for the magnet, crafted from silicone. This choice of material and form required careful editing of Hockney's original artwork to ensure the factory could create the necessary moulds.

Working directly from Hockney’s artwork presented a unique challenge, as any alterations had to preserve the distinctive details and mark-making that define his style. Maintaining the integrity of his work was crucial, particularly when translating from print to silicone. Additionally, achieving an exact color match from the original artwork to the silicone material posed its own set of challenges.

As a result, the final product required approval from David Hockney himself to ensure that it met his high standards and preserved the essence of his work.
